Philadelphia Foundation Names Philip Fitzgerald As Chief Impact Officer

Philadelphia Foundation, a leading driver of philanthropic impact in the Greater Philadelphia region for over a century, today announced that Philip Fitzgerald will return to the organization as its first Chief Impact Officer, effective March 3, 2025. This strategic appointment reflects the community foundation’s commitment to expanding its role as a catalyst for transformative change in Greater Philadelphia.

“Phil’s return to Philadelphia Foundation comes at a pivotal moment as we deepen our focus on improving economic mobility and fostering collaborative solutions to our region’s most pressing challenges and opportunities,” said Pedro Ramos, President and CEO of Philadelphia Foundation. “His proven ability to build effective cross-sector partnerships and deploy resources for measurable impact makes him ideally suited to help lead our next chapter of community investment and engagement.”

In this newly created role, Fitzgerald will focus on growing the scale and effectiveness of philanthropy devoted to the region’s residents, with particular emphasis on economic mobility, community safety, and youth development. He will lead collaborative initiatives that bring together corporate, civic, nonprofit, government, and community stakeholders to create sustainable community solutions.

Fitzgerald returns to Philadelphia Foundation from Citi Foundation, where he served as Senior Vice President and Senior Program Officer since 2021. At Citi Foundation, he led the Community Progress Makers initiative, deploying over $50 million in flexible funding to support community organizations driving economic opportunity across the United States. Prior to Citi Foundation, he spent eight years at Philadelphia Foundation, including serving as Executive Director of Grantmaking.

Fitzgerald holds MBAs from Temple University’s Fox School of Business and the École des Ponts Business School in Paris, as well as a BS from Drexel University. A graduate of West Catholic High School, he maintains deep connections to the Philadelphia community.
