Since the company’s beginning, Maven has provided communications support to nonprofits and philanthropy clients through both paid and pro bono work. With more than two decades of supporting this space, we understand the unique communications challenges this sector faces including competing for visibility and dollars in a crowded market, maximizing impact with limited resources, and communicating complex issues in a compelling way.

Our expertise in this space is rooted in a deep knowledge of the Greater Philadelphia region, our understanding of the range of funding solutions and individual and organizational funder objectives, and through the great number of hours we’ve spent in board rooms, pitch meetings, strategy calls, and coalition building activities.

We believe that an integrated approach to communications is especially important in the nonprofit and philanthropy space.

This is what that process looks like:

Mission articulation and messaging – We help nonprofits and philanthropic organizations articulate purpose and impact through clear, compelling messaging that resonates with donors, partners, and communities. Our process involves understanding an organizations goals and objectives and the specific target audiences that are essential in reaching them. We then take a deep dive into those target audiences, striving to understand pain points, motivations and past actions to develop a messaging infrastructure that will resonate with each audience.

Visibility through a targeted multi-channel strategy – Once we know all we can about the target audiences, we develop custom campaigns that showcase a impact and drive desired actions. This can look like everything from a paid Meta campaign targeting single moms in a specific zip code in North Philadelphia paired with ghostwriting a series of articles showcasing Executive Director expertise maternal healthcare best practices in low-income communities. The idea is to create a comprehensive, multitouch program that reaches each target audiences on channels where they are with messaging that catches their attention and motivates them into intended actions.

Executive positioning – The way we think about executive positioning is by creating a durable platform that tells a compelling story to target audiences. It’s also about helping nonprofit and philanthropic leaders build a body of work that reflects who they are and why their perspective matters. The market for executive thought leadership has never been more crowded, but it has also never been more hungry for authentic, experiences voices. By working with executives to find the intersection of their personal experiences with their professional expertise, Maven successfully positions leaders as go-to sources within their space.

With experience spanning foundations, education, healthcare, social services, arts and culture, and advocacy organizations, Maven understands the unique challenges and range of opportunities in this space. We work as an extension of your team, providing strategic guidance, tactical support, and measurable results that advance your mission.
