Philadelphia, PA (November 7, 2025) – As nonprofit organizations face unprecedented challenges—from rising community needs to staffing shortages and funding uncertainty-hundreds of nonprofit leaders and professionals from across the Greater Philadelphia region came together for Call to Wellness, a two-day campaign held November 6-7, 2025. The initiative marks a critical turning point in how the sector addresses leadership sustainability, recognizing that organizations cannot effectively serve their communities when their leaders are depleted.
Call to Wellness is an initiative created by United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey’s Center for Leadership Equity (CLE), in partnership with the Black Nonprofit Chief Executives of Philadelphia (BNCEP), ImpactED (through the Nonprofit Leaders’ Circle), and Creative Praxis.
“We cannot pour from empty cups, yet that is exactly what we’ve been asking nonprofit leaders to do for far too long,” said Kelly Woodland, Executive Director, UWGPSNJ’s Center for Leadership Equity. “The strength of Call to Wellness lies in its collaborative foundation. When leaders come together to collaborate and share experiences, the communities we serve reap the benefits,” said Kelly Woodland, Executive Director, UWGPSNJ’s Center for Leadership Equity.
At a time when burnout and uncertainty weigh heavily across the nonprofit sector, Call to Wellness affirmed that healing is a healthy and necessary part of leadership. Through a mix of in-person and virtual experiences, the initiative created opportunities for reflection, connection, and skill-building tailored to the unique demands of nonprofit work.
Highlights included immersive wellness retreats for executives and members of the Nonprofit Leaders’ Circle, accessible virtual lunchtime sessions for staff across the region, and the launch of an interactive Nonprofit Wellness Toolkit. Together, these programs offered practical tools, resources, and community support to foster individual wellbeing and strengthen nonprofit teams.
