SITIO architecture + urbanism Celebrates 10th Anniversary with En Su Sitio Exhibition Opening at Taller Puertorriqueño

Career-spanning exhibition marks SITIO’s tenth year and the tenth anniversary of Taller’s El Corazón Cultural Center

SITIO architecture + urbanism, a boutique Philadelphia design practice founded by Antonio Fiol-Silva, will celebrate its 10th anniversary this fall with En Su Sitio, “In Its Place,” an exhibition tracing Fiol-Silva’s career trajectory alongside the collective body of work that defines SITIO today. The exhibition opens September 11 and runs through November 14 at Taller Puertorriqueño’s El Corazón Cultural Center, a building Fiol-Silva himself designed. An opening reception will be held Friday, September 18, from 5:30 to 8:30 PM.

The exhibition’s run coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month and marks a decade for both organizations: SITIO’s founding as an independent practice and Taller’s tenth year in its current home on North 5th Street. Together, the two milestones frame an exhibition about design’s role in building community, in a building that is itself an example of that idea.

Through drawings, models, research, and built work, the exhibition explores how thoughtful design can respond to social, cultural, economic, and environmental conditions while strengthening connections between people and place.

“This exhibition is a chance to step back and look across a career of work through the lens of architecture as a practical art, one that is socially rooted in people, culture, and place,” said Antonio Fiol-Silva, Founding Principal of SITIO. “It traces a personal trajectory that bridges the scale of the city and the individual, using memory, values, and place to shape how we inhabit our built environment. Presenting it inside a building we designed for Taller makes that point in a way words can’t.”

Over the past decade, SITIO’s practice has worked across sectors and geographies, from an intimate chapel restoration to a 30-story high-rise, always guided by the idea that good design takes its cue from the DNA of a place. The exhibition will feature a selection of that work, including:

  • The Chestnut at University City: a 30-story, 405-unit mixed-use residential tower near the University of Pennsylvania, recognized with a ULI Philadelphia Award of Excellence.
  • Penn Drexel Newman Center: the adaptive reuse and restoration of the oldest Newman Center in the country, also honored with a ULI Philadelphia Award of Excellence.
  • 2500 League Island Boulevard: a flex production facility at the Philadelphia Navy Yard supporting the region’s growing cell and gene therapy industry, awarded an AIA Pennsylvania Design Excellence Silver Medal.
  • La Joya Gardens: a community-driven mixed-use and affordable housing development in Southwest Detroit’s Mexicantown, shaped through extensive resident engagement.

Taller Puertorriqueño has spent decades using arts and culture to strengthen North Philadelphia’s Latino community, and hosting the exhibition extends that mission.

“Taller has always believed that culture and place are inseparable, and this exhibition brings that belief to life,” said Erikka Goslin, Executive Director and CEO of Taller Puertorriqueño. “Antonio designed El Corazón with our community in mind, and now his career of work will fill these same walls during Hispanic Heritage Month. It is a full-circle moment for both of our organizations.”

The opening reception on September 18 will be free and open to the public, with light refreshments served. For media RSVPs, please email Lizzy Leer at lleer@mavenagency.com.
