Introducing a New Music Director to Philadelphia

The Challenge

For six seasons, The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia was led by the well-known and well-regarded Music Director Ignat Solzhenitsyn. When The Chamber Orchestra prepared to announce that acclaimed composer and international conductor Dirk Brosse̒ will succeed Maestro Solzhenitsyn as Music Director, the organization was concerned about subscriber and media reaction as Maestro Brosse̒ was relatively unknown in the Philadelphia music community. Among subscribers who were familiar with Maestro Brosse̒, there was concern that he may alter the Chamber Orchestra’s dedication to classical music.

Strategy

Maven created a comprehensive communications campaign that allowed subscribers and donors to get to know their new Music Director as well as communicate The Chamber Orchestra’s vision to subscribers, donors and the media. Maven coordinated an “introductory tour” with Maestro Brosse̒ leading up to the new season designed to help build connections in the community and share The Chamber Orchestra’s vision for the upcoming season and beyond. In addition to integrating Maestro Brosse̒ into the Philadelphia music community, the introductory tour enabled the Chamber Orchestra to increase awareness, build excitement and help drive ticket sales.

Results

Through a series of intimate events, key audiences and influencers had the opportunity to personally meet with Maestro Brosse̒ to get to know him better. Simultaneously, Maven executed a media tour with Maestro Brosse̒ that resulted in interviews and profile pieces locally and nationally, including the Associated Press, Philadelphia Inquirer, WHYY, NBC10 and Fox29 among others. Overall subscriber numbers were not negatively affected after the announcement and single ticket sales increased for the season.
